The Pitches, Trusses and Framing of Roofs

»Posted by on Jan 15, 2018 in Framing of Roofs | 0 comments

Whether you’re going to be directly involved in the installation of roofs or you’re just going to tell your requests to the roofer, a basic knowledge about roof design is important. The roofer can give you suggestions but you’re the only one who has the final say because it’s going to be your house anyway. So basically, roofs can be flat (still slightly angled) or pitched (really angled).

You can easily tell the basic design of the roof of your neighbors. Pitched or flat, there are a lot of designs and combination of design elements you can choose from. With the right construction method, which the roofing in Sandy Springs will take care of, you can achieve the roof that your house deserves.

 Framing of Roofs

As a start, let me tell you about the four main designs of the pitched roofs. These are the (1) gabled, (2) hipped, (3) shed and (4) mansard. There are many themes which are built in different ways using different materials. The gabled pitched roof is a piece of wall where the roof slopes around. The hipped is the joint between the roof’s adjacent slopes. If the roof is complicated, it will need several hips. If you prefer simple, you can opt for shed. But mostly it is used on lean-to structures. Finally, the mansard is the modified pitched roofs which create a space in the roof area.

Frames of Pitched Roof

This type of roof design will need lots of frames to support the covering and structure. The two main types of the wooden frames are trussed roof and cut roof. Most of the time they are combined to achieve the complexity of the roofing.

Cut Roof Frame

All roofs are basically “cut”, the carpenters cut during the construction. Some of the roof’s weight would be transferred to internal loadbearing walls to cover some spans. It is laborious, but still it is constructed even up to these days.

Common Trussed Roof Frame

These are manufactured by special companies because of their complexities. It is often referred to as A-frames, which combines joists, rafters and jacks. Because of technology, trusses are made slimmer than the cut roof. The stresses and loading requirements can now be calculated. Trusses are also available in different sizes and shapes to suit the roofing’s various needs.

Like mentioned, trusses are manufactured in different sizes and designs. Some designs are for a particular type of roof or structural need. Some of the common types of truss roofs are room-in-attic, scissor, clerestory, and triple howe.

Types of Roof Systems

There are two basic types of roof systems, they are the truss frame and stick frame. The truss frame uses pre-built woods to build the frame. You need to be familiar of the pitch of the roof to be able to successfully build the roof system. The stick frame uses dimensional and ordinary lumber to create the frame and system.

This information is just basic. It would be easy for you to familiarize them. But most especially, you should trust your roofer because they are skilled in this job. They know all about the pitches, the frames and the designs.

The Effects of Fire to Environment

»Posted by on Jan 12, 2018 in Fire to Environment | 0 comments

One of the most tragic events that people don’t want to experience is fire. The damage is huge and restoration will take long. It’s not the property which is damaged; it also has damages to people’s health and environment. Take the California wildfire for example; the fire damage impacted the environment and the wildlife. There is a recorded 100,000 wildfire in the US alone, which destroyed over 9 million acres of land. Fire is deadly; once it’s not stopped it’s going to destroy infrastructure and wildlife. In this article, we will focus more on the environmental damage brought by fire.

Wildfires commonly occurred in wildland areas, but they can also affect agricultural resources and houses if it’s fast spreading and near the towns. Global warming is one of the top reasons why wildfire happens, greenhouse gas emissions are increased.

Effects of Wildfire

1. Takes Away Wildlife and Vegetation

After a great wildlife like the current one, inhabitants of wildlife became homeless, and they got nowhere to go. An immense wildlife also affects home and vegetation. Millions of dollars are spent for the fire damage restoration especially if it affected a large area. Vegetation becomes obsolete especially if a farm is near the wildfire. Re-building the homes and taking care of the areas of vegetation will take a lot of time and money.

2. Soil is Destroyed

Once a wildfire takes over the land, the soil is completely destroyed. We all know that the soils in the wildlife are composed of natural ingredients like decaying debris and nutrients that help the trees and plants grow. Once the wildfire affects the soil, the nutrients are gone. It will take years to fertilize the soil again and grow some plants in the area.

3. Kills Animals

One of the most devastated in these tragic times is the animals. It is sad, but it’s a fact that once wildfire hits the forest, the inhabitants don’t only lose homes, most of them also die. If there are too many animals that die in wildfire, it affects the balance of our ecosystem.  4

4. Dead Trees and Plants

Obviously, if there’s a wildfire, almost all the plants and trees are gone. Aside from the inhabitants, the plants are also greatly affected. It makes the area a dead place. It also affects the oxygen level of the area. The less plants and trees we have, the less clean air we breathe. So if the destruction

5. Soil Erosion

When firefighters rescue and try to put out the fire, they will use a lot of water to do it effectively. Wildfire is not the same with those house fires, so rescuers will really use many resources to put out the water. Too much water in the soil will lead to erosion, making most of the area more difficult to restore.

6. Air Pollution

The fire creates smoke, and those large amounts of smokes are releases into the air which is a cause of air pollution. Smoke and ash can affect the people’s health, especially those who suffer from allergies.
